New Super Mario Galaxy 2 Trailer is Incredible

I have to admit, I’ve been very worried about Super Mario Galaxy 2. After a strong opening at E3, we’ve seen little of the game since, and with a small development window, it has been hard not to view the game as anything but a quick cash-in. Needless to say, after it was announced today at the Nintendo Summit that the game will be released May 23rd, I became even more worried.

That was until I saw the game’s newest trailer:

Wow. Thing I picked up after multiple viewings:

1) The first theme from the song is a new one, while the latter theme is the Gusty Garden Galaxy theme. Music is once again stunning in composition.

2) A new device to drill through spherical worlds has been implemented into this game.

3) The game’s bosses are once again gigantic in scale. Bowser Jr. makes a cameo in the trailer.

4) King Boo makes an appearance this time around.

5) Yoshi is back as well known, but we got to see him in some more action. First thing I noticed: it appears a few levels were designed around Yoshi gameplay, as well as the boss fight featuring Bowser Jr. Also, you’ll be able to point and click to control usage of his tongue now.

6) The scale of the game’s levels has been amped a lot. Mario looks a lot smaller on these spherical worlds than he did in the past game.

7) Mario-head shaped spherical world shown. Cause that makes sense.

8) Gravity puzzles seem to play a large role once again, except the level showcased in this trailer looks a lot more complex.
